PRATI DI GRIES SOCIAL HOUSING
PROCESS
Considered from the jury a ‘’True Manifesto of Timber Architecture’’, Prati di Gries Social Housing Project finds inspiration into the details of the construction system. The initial concept took full advantage of the material potentials, making the massing and the structure gravitate around a simple square grid. The floor plate is designed with minimum module of 3800x3800mm, engineered to optimize the structural performance of the CLT beams and planks, ensuring a comfortable residential fit out.
By zoning the floor plate into wet areas around the core and dry on the perimeter, we ensured the flexibility of reconfigure and adapt in time the unit sizes: every apartment follows the grid module and has the chance to expand end compress in size by simply moving the partition walls.
The permeable filter between indoor and outdoor is defined by loggias, which act as proper winter gardens, relaxation areas and multi-purpose spaces staggered in elevation creating a proper pile of wood look and feel.
The timber fireproof coated facade is also solved in a logical manner. The three unitised system modules are clamped to the CLT structure are designed differently to respond to the dwelling functions. Loggias and balconies are staggered and screened for create privacy between the units.
Particular attention has been given to the ground floor level and roof top amenities floor, designed to be real meeting points for residents and visitors.
