GYM AND PARK RENOVATION
PROCESS
The first challenge concerns the positioning of the building and the relative massing. By extruding the perimeter, we evaluated two possible solutions: keep all the volume above ground by cantilever the mass or leaving a part underground. This last alternative has been considered more successful in terms of integration with the historical context, structural efficiency and related costs.
Planning was developed accordingly to the massing, verifying that the gym room was compliant with the local regulation.
The façade was scientifically developed with a rational subdivision of the surface, thank to the use of 1.2 m panels anchored to the structural grid.
With the aim of insert the glass only where is necessary to reduce costs, we developed a parametric system that analysed solar radiation and privacy.
The result of the mentioned studies leads us to obtaining a building apparently simple, but perfectly contextualized in the Roman neighbourhood. However, the interiors creates the dichotomy.
The scientific studies carried during the last decades on the influence of chromatisms on the people mood and feelings in sports, led us to design the spaces with an explosion of flue colours, as metaphor of the joy protruded during the exercise of the physical activities.
