PRIMARY & SECONDARY SCHOOL
PROCESS
The project started with the ambition of being a driving force of innovation for the community that involves the participation of designers, habitants, students, teachers, and ATA staff.
Sixty years after the Vajont tragedy, the people of Longarone are conscious that respect the environment is a guarantee of life. Our proposal starts from this principle and look at sustainable materials, wellbeing, biophilia, technology, clean energy, and carbon zero target.
The massing is defined by two translated rectangles to better respond to the natural light and wind conditions. We have deliberately decided to persuade the language of the simplicity, by using a traditional form, contextualized in the valley. The structure has been designed in mass timber engaging local expertise and suppliers. The façade has been optimised by reducing the percentage of glass, alternating it with panels properly placed to reduce the direct light during the school hours.
Both Primary and Secondary school programs are designed around a dynamic triple height space in the centre of the floorplate. The vertical distribution between the three levels is determined by the main staircase, which also works as relax area, open classroom, meeting point or auditorium. The new school complex project has the aim to promote conviviality and exchange processes between students of different ages and conditions and not create a generational gap. More after, could become a real civic centre used by the community during the extra-scholastic hours.
